Paraiba Tourmalines : The Beautiful Neon Color Gem Stones

Paraiba Tourmalines : The Beautiful Neon Color Gem Stones

Paraiba Tourmalines have gained a lot of popularity in recent years. The beautiful neon colour gemstone is what makes this Paraiba so different from the rest of the tourmalines. Paraiba has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

It is estimated that for every 10,000 diamond mines, only 1 Paraiba is mined! Hence making Paraiba one of the most expensive gemstone in the world due to its rarity.

Paraiba tourmaline was mined primarily in Brazil but in the 2000s, a new wave of Paraiba mine was found in Africa.

Most Paraiba tourmalines are heated to achieve their colour. And like all gemstones they have inclusions. Paraiba tourmalines that are mined from Brazil has a  different colour saturation as compared to those mined from Africa.

The Paraiba tourmaline is very unique: it gets its beautiful colour due to copper, an element which has never before been observed in a tourmaline. A fair proportion of its weight consists of copper. But scientists have discovered that it often also contains manganese. Paraiba tourmalines appear in a range of greenish-blue, bluish-green, green, blue and violet hues. Copper in high concentrations is responsible for the highly coveted radiant blue, turquoise and green hues, while violet and red tones are caused by manganese.

Paraiba tourmalines are very popular with our customers, great choice for someone looking for a truly rare and beautiful gem!
