Tourmaline - October Birthstone

Do you know that Tourmaline is the birthstone for October?

The word tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese word “toramalli” meaning “stone with mixed colors” because it often has multiple colors in one crystal. Tourmaline comes in a wide range of colors. 

The most expensive tourmalines sold per carat are the Paraiba. The neon- blue paraiba has been gaining fast popularity in the last few years. Another popular tourmaline is the Indicolite blue tourmaline from Afghanistan.

Tourmaline also has a Mohs hardness of 7 to 7 ½, and that hardness makes it a durable stone for jewelry.
